  1. The difference between the College of Industry Academia Innovation (CIAI) and regular science and engineering departments?What makes CIAI the preferred choice?

    • CIAI invites full-time professors from relevant fields within the university to serve as joint-appointed faculty in the “AI Cross-Domain Application Research Institute” and the “Green Energy Technology and Sustainable Governance Research Institute.” Additionally, industry experts are brought in to co-teach and collaborate with businesses, allowing students to participate in industry-academic cooperation projects during their studies and transition directly into employment upon graduation.
    • Half of the college’s funding originates from well-known domestic collaborative enterprises, while the other half is provided through contributions from the National Development Fund.
    • The college’s objective is to integrate private sector resources while promoting the spirit of public-private collaboration. Its aim is to foster forward-thinking research talents through joint efforts between industry and academia.

    • In addition to providing financial support, enterprises will also contribute manpower to assist in planning practical and forward-looking technical content for the curriculum. Furthermore, they will collaborate with technical experts from the industry to provide guidance, lectures, and serve as co-supervising professors.

  3. What are the collaboration frameworks with enterprises?

    • The main collaboration models include co-supervision and teaching, industry-academia cooperation projects, scholarships, and research internships.
    • There is no obligation or assurance of employment with collaborating companies.
    • The college will collaborate with partner companies to allocate additional research internship slots for our graduate students. In instances of insufficient availability, dedicated personnel will be assigned by the college to aid in fulfilling the research internship requirement.
    • If students’ expertise does not align with the internship positions offered by collaborating companies, they can still seek for other internship opportunities.
    • The internship salary during the internship period will adhere to the policies of each company, meeting or surpassing the requirements of the Labor Standards Act.。

  4. Is the primary focus on coursework or research? If research-oriented, will it align with the professor’s original laboratory research topic?

    • The master’s program mandates 24 credits for completion (inclusive of 3 credits for research internship), along with the obligatory thesis, in line with the current departmental standards.
    • Research topics should be related to the expertise of the supervising professor, and students are encouraged to select thesis topics with practical industrial application value through industry-academia collaboration.

  5. Are there differences in stipend allowances during the period of enrollment?

    • The college offers doctoral students a maximum monthly scholarship of NT$40,000. For master’s students, the maximum monthly scholarship is NT$20,000.
    • Other graduate students may still apply for the same graduate student incentives as those currently available in the department.
    • The subsidies for various industry-academia collaboration projects and Ministry of Science and Technology projects are determined by the supervising professor.

  6. The graduation requirements of the progrom?

    • The duration needed to complete the coursework requirements is largely in line with the current departmental standards. The guidelines for the master’s thesis align with those of the existing department and are at the discretion of the supervising professor. Thus, completing the program within two years should be achievable.
    • Graduation criteria and timelines are primarily determined by individual supervising professors.
